The Saints Dixieland Jazz Band

Cedar Falls, Iowa

For almost three decades, the Saints Dixieland Jazz Band has been a highly successful musical organization. Featuring a variety of styles from traditional Dixieland and blues to swing music and mainstream jazz, the band has entertained audiences at nightspots and clubs as well as festivals. The Saints have been the host band for all the twenty-five years of the Cedar Basin Jazz Festival in Cedar Falls, IA. In addition, the band has been featured at the Bix Beiderbecke, Good Times Jazz, Valley Junction, Iowa City, Elkhart (IN) and Winona (MN) jazz festivals. In 1988, the Saints appeared at the Sacramento Dixieland Jubilee in California, the world's largest and most prestigious jazz festival.

Though following other career paths, the members of the Saints have aspired to the greats of jazz since their childhood. The musicians include a retired lawyer, a retired social worker, a university music instructor, a radio personality, a chemistry professor, a salesman and a new media developer. Some band members have extensive musical training and appear with other groups. The band had a long run of performances at Bill's Drinking Esatblishment in Marion, as well as the Depot and the Olde Broom Factory in Cedar Falls, and appears regularly at Martini's in Iowa City.

The Saints bring their deep understanding of the roots and traditions of Dixieland music to each performance, but what audiences take away is the bandmember's obvious love of playing the world's first truly American music - jazz.
